SEEKING TRANS AND NON-BINARY IDENTIFIED ACTORS FOR NEW MUSICAL

Are you interested in being considered for upcoming workshops and productions of MISS STEP?

We are launching a rolling-deadline nationwide search to cast lead roles in the new musical MISS STEP, an '80s dance aerobics musical featuring an all-trans lead cast, written by award-winning writers Melissa Li and Kit Yan, for future workshops and productions. The show is being developed by Village Theatre, with previous developmental support from 5th Avenue Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, and Musical Theater Factory.

MISS STEP is a story about Pam, an “unremarkable” woman in her 40s whose humdrum life takes a surprise turn when she discovers that her late estranged father had a secret passion for competitive aerobics. In an attempt to connect with him, she convinces a group of ragtag friends to compete in the Diamond Dee-Lite Midwestern Regional Aerobics Competition.

  • Pam (she/her), transgender woman, mid-40s. Ordinary, risk-averse, prefers peace and quiet.

  • Cindy (she/they), 40s, is a trans/nonbinary person with a feminine gender expression. A snappy type-A lawyer.

  • Pauline (she/her), transgender woman, mid-40s. Straight, traditional, suburban mom and homemaker.

  • Eli (he/him), transgender man, mid-30s. Butch, gruff, straight, uber-manly, silent type.

  • Jay (he/they), 20s, a trans/non-binary person. A flamboyant aspiring dancer with zero talent but endless persistence.
